Our homes are located in the town of Lac-Mégantic, surrounded by mountains to explore. From Mont-Ham to Mont-Mégantic, the surrounding area abounds in peaks and hiking trails. Two national parks have been established in the region, allowing exploration of territories rich in flora and fauna.
The Route des Sommets is one of 18 tourist routes criss-crossing Quebec. It traverses a mountainous landscape that includes some of the highest peaks in southern Quebec. Summer and winter alike, the region and its peaks are a must-see destination.

Parc régional du Mont-Ham offers trails of varying levels of intensity. Its summit is 713 meters above sea level, overlooking a panorama of forest and farmland.

Massif de Winslow is part of Sépaq's Parc national de Frontenac. The trails offer a variety of landscapes, from the sandy shores of Lac Thor to hills of mixed forest, all the way to the summit at 430 m altitude.

This granite site is rich in history. Granite quarrying was the dominant activity in the region for many years. Just off the hiking trails, you'll find the Maison du granit, an interpretation center on the history of granite. The view from the summit at 824 metres above sea level is well worth the detour. There's also a magnificent view from the terrace of the Maison du granit.

Mont-Bélanger is close to the U.S. border. It offers a wide range of vistas, from impressive white spruce-fir spruce stands to rocky scree slopes, Lake Émilie and the observation tower at its 960-metre summit.

Scotch Cap is our favorite little mountain because it's so close to home. It's easy to climb and, from its 550-metre summit, there's a superb view of the Mont Mégantic massif and Joncs, aux Araignées and Mégantic lakes.

This mountain is in the Louise-Gosford ZEC. It is the highest peak in southern Quebec. The view from its 1193-metre summit is simply sublime, with mountain ranges stretching as far as the eye can see. Dogs are allowed on the hiking trails.

Cap Frontière is in the Mont-Gosford territory of the Louise-Gosford ZEC. There are several trails to get there. At the summit, at an altitude of 1154 m, you'll find a panoramic view of the Bigelow massif, Onion Hill and Boil Mountain. Dogs are allowed on site.

This hike follows the Canadian-American border. It's called Marble Mountain because of its impressive 400m-high stone wall. At its 923-metre summit, you'll enjoy views of Mont-Gosford and many of Maine's mountains. Dogs are allowed on the hiking trails.

This mountain is only accessible via Marble Mountain, making it a well-kept secret. This area offers exceptional views of the surrounding American mountains. Its summit is at an altitude of 972 metres. Dogs are allowed on site.

Mont-Mégantic is part of the International Dark Sky Reserve, making it a unique scientific attraction in Quebec. Parc national du Mont-Mégantic is divided into two sectors. To get to the top of this mountain, you have to go to the Observatory sector. Its summit is renowned for its astronomical observatory at an altitude of 1110 metres. In the Observatory sector, there's also the Astrolab for those who want to learn more about the subject.
The Mont-Mégantic trail is the only one where dogs are allowed.

Mont Saint-Joseph is located in Mont Mégantic National Park. It is accessible via the observatory sector and has a summit altitude of 1075 metres. The mountain takes its name from a small chapel erected at its summit. A number of facilities, including a refuge and a shelter, make for a comfortable ascent. The view from the top of the mountain is magnificent.

Mount Victoria is reserved for hiking enthusiasts. It's only accessible once you've passed Mount St. Joseph or Mount Megantic, depending on the trail you choose, making it a unique destination. Its 1,065-metre summit has nothing to envy the neighbouring mountains. Here you'll find a particular type of vegetation, rare in Quebec, called the mountain sorrel pine forest.

Franceville Mountain is part of the other sector of Mont-Mégantic National Park. On this side, you can see the crest of the Mont Mégantic massif. Along the way, the Cimes trail will take you to several impressive viewpoints over Mont Saint-Joseph, Mont Mégantic and Mont Pain de sucre. These 840-metre high peaks will not leave you indifferent.

Located in the Franceville sector of Mont Mégantic National Park, Pain de sucre offers an exceptional view of the interior of the Mont Mégantic massif. Its route is dotted with sublime elements, from the river at the foot of the mountain, through lichen-covered forests and numerous rocky cliffs.
From the 665-metre high summit, you'll enjoy a vertiginous view of the massif.

Mountain located 2km, or about 5 minutes' drive, from our lodgings.
This mountain seems modest, since we're accessing it from the town of Lac-Mégantic, which is already 392 metres above sea level. At its summit, 500 metres above sea level, is a 21-metre-high cross that lights up when darkness falls. The summit offers a fine view of downtown Lac-Mégantic and its lake. It's a great vantage point for nearby sunsets.
